CHEBON DACON

Chebon is an American Indian of Creek descent and was born in Oklahoma City on November 11, 1946. He is a self-taught artist specializing in contemporary Western and Indian art. He currently resides in Mt. Home, Arkansas.

Chebon spent his earlier years as an outstanding athlete, quarterbacking his way to fame and a scholarship to the University of Oklahoma. However, serious injuries halted his promising athletic career and he began to pursue a future in art.

Chebon traveled the country, showing his artwork, bareback riding on the rodeo circuit, and participating in competitive Indian dancing. High awards and recognition for ceremonial dancing, as well as his talent for art, brought an invitation from the United States Department Of Commerce to act as a goodwill ambassador to Australia. His art has been shown in several European countries and takes its place in museums, galleries, and a number of private collections throughout the United States.

Chebon is an imaginative and expressive artist with a special sensitivity for any medium he chooses, as well as strong personal feelings for his subject matter. His artwork includes detailed pencil drawings and skillfully executed watercolors and acrylics. A delicacy and subtle beauty are produced in his work by a combination of fine line, refined composition, and meticulous mixing of gentle color.

Chebon's heritage is expressed in the mountainous landscapes, the animals, and the characters of the past that his drawings and paintings depict. Yet, his work has a refreshing contemporary style - a quiet surety and directness that invite you to share in his lyrical thoughts of things from long ago.
